Comments: Yup. Those bolts were poorly placed, and they will be moved 5 meters down

Comments: Regarding the hanging belay at the end of P1 (proper) of Solid Gold.

Edit:
One trick I have done is to belay with gear above the last bolt of that pitch in a nice ledge pod. Plenty of options for bomber pro, though a couple Aliens should suffice and can use the last bolt as upward pull. You can slingshot off the rap anchors if you want to, but have to downclimb back to the pod. Supercomfy!

Richard originally set up SG to be climbed with a 60m. If the belay/rap station were to be m... more >>

Comments: It has been attempted a few times, David. Locals pretty strict with no more extra bolts at Turkey. Q&Q has always been a follow-clean-rap kind of route.

Comments: Great route with lots of rests. But to you folks that claim "70m makes it to the ground just fine", i'd like to clarify that it makes it to about 10 feet from the ground, though easy enough to downclimb the flakes.

Comments: Above pic slightly outdated. There are actually two anchor bolts with mussies on Mulligan Stew ledge. A piece of chain on the anchor lets you extend the clip if you feel timid getting to the next bolt, which is about two feet higher than in picture. 13 draws total for M.Pie

Comments: Your description sums up the climbing pretty well although I counted 5 clips. The second one would be bit desperate and getting to the last clip is heady though with relatively easier moves. 12c in Rob's book, FA Barry Ward. Awesome sequences on bullet rock, so to speak...

Comments: Its 2017, what's with these silly pins on these sport routes? By the time you show your wall savvy and hero hitch the pin, you can clip the next bolt. The lowering rings twist the rope. But this route kicks up a few good steep moves for the grade!

Comments: Well we have successfully/easily rapped from the original rap hangers on Ashtray Ledge. I can imagine the addition of some short chains could pinch the rope. The other couple of bolts in the ledge are cozy. I have fond memories of brewing up coffee and smoking ciggies in mid-winter, snow falling. Didn't have to go far for big adventure.

Comments: Michalm, I've been waiting ten years to entertain this discussion!, but not until you climb the route first, you silly goose. Since I apparently robbed you of your pure trad experience of The Gauntlet, have a stab at Big Bros Watchin', Naked Kill, Brennivin, and Wiled Horses if you're willing to step up to the challenge.
