More information:
Was in the Marine Corps infantry from 2007-2015 and served 2 tours in Afghanistan's Helmand Province in 2010, and again in 2012. I am now studying to go to medical school to be an emergency medicine physician, and currently work as a medical scribe in a level I trauma center in central Phoenix.

I learned to climb on gear in Joshua Tree Nat. Park in 2012 from a buddy of mine who was a mountain warfare instructor for the Marines. Shortly thereafter, I took two full-day private lessons with an AMGA guide through Bob Gaines' company to cover multi-pitch and self-rescue skills.

Since then I've been predominantly trad climbing when time allows for it, and slowly but surely moving more into the summer alpine scene. My two greatest climbing achievements thus far have been completing the Cirque Traverse and summiting the Grand Teton.

Safety is extremely important to me, which includes being realistic about your abilities and experience. Just because you can climb 5.11 doesn't necessarily mean you know how to build a proper gear anchor or how to secure an unconscious climber. I have no problems climbing with beginners or those with less experience, I just want to know who I am climbing with. I think my biggest pet peeve in meeting new climbing partners is people who advertise themselves as something they aren't (i.e. "confident 5.9 trad leader"), and then it takes them an hour to lead a pitch of 5.6 or they try to escape mid-route due to a 10 ft run out on a 4-star 5.7 pitch in Eldo. True story, can't you tell?
