Comments: The sign-proper marking the start of the trail up to Jackass Pass from Big Sandy Lake ....... is no longer. But there is still the 1.25-meter-or-so-tall signpost still sticking straight up: Hey, getting 50% of what you want isn't that bad, right? Just look for the (sign)post where Big Sandy Lake's outline makes the well-defined 90-degree bend located at the north of the lake. The trail up to the pass is quite worn-in, and then, later, after making the turnoff for the climbing-area/h... more >>

Comments: A great route for people who are newer to roofs. The roof-corner is high enough to make for a bit of psych-out factor; but when you arrive there it's possible to actually "sit," with legs stemming out to either a Coach legroom or Business Class legroom, giving one time to take some deep breaths and gather one's self for the exposure move to clear the corner. With the length of my legs, i chose Business Class, although on an airplane they would probably kick me out of that section.

The Mendoza Canyon "walls" form a huge C-shape, and when you head in from the Anvil Ranch you will be approaching the mouth of the 'C'. The parking lot area (the end of the "5.5 miles" mentioned in "Getting There") where you have to put on your packs and at the more-southern "tip of the C-shape". That is, it's where you finish the penstroke and lift your pen off... more >>

Comments: As someone who mostly belays and follows my stronger partners, i hardly ever use a helmet for belaying, but it seemed like some of the routes on the south part of the wall had an awful lot of stuff falling down, at least as of the time of this posting. So i think this is a crag, where if you are "on the fence" about bringing a helmet as a belayer, this might be the wall to bring one. In several years of belaying on Lemmon, i had my biggest rock ever fall towards me this past week at Weathertop... more >>
