Bill Strachan is the Executive Director of the Red River Gorge Climbers' Coalition a non-profit corporation dedicated to maintaining climbing access in the Red River Gorge, Kentucky area. In addition to working with the US Forest Service on access issues in Red River Gorge proper, the RRGCC purchased 700 acres of land in the Southern Region to preserve access where climbing on private land was threatened. This piece of property is now called the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve.
Bills first rock climbing experience was at Carlton Peak on the shore of Lake Superior in the summer of 1971 when he attended the Voyager Outward Bound School based in Ely, Minnesota. In the summer of 1974, Bill attended the National Outdoor Leadership School, earning a Mountain Guide Certificate. As Executive Director of the RRGCC, Bill brings almost two decades of non-profit experience to the organization.
