Comments: I only had time to do one route in the area and I'm so glad we chose this one. Best 5.7 I've ever done. I did the right variation ( looking up into the chimney made be doubt my 6'4" 220 body could squeeze into it), pulled through the 5.8 crack onto the face, almost got blown off by the wind. I continued to the horizontal crack (bomb .75), from that point I moved back into the chimney (now much wider) and finished. Rope drag was pretty awful, but endurable.

Comments: There is a possibility that this was climbed before Corey and I. At the time of our ascent I asked around and no one said they had heard of anyone getting on it. But after talking to Rick Kollath it sounds like he may have made the true FA, but he could not remember when exactly he climbed it. Any who, it is fun when it is in, and the next time the lake if frozen enough to approach from the shore. I'll be there.

Comments: If you get on this route this year PLEASE do not torque behind the flake. Hook hook HOOK! The cementing ice layer that is usually there is absent this year.

Comments: Big Blue aka the Main Pillar aka Aqua Blue. Three different mixed finishes lead to the top. Also mixed variation "Turning to Stone" goes off right. I miss this route this year, the Quarry is dry.

Comments: This past September the Duluth Conservation Corps MN crew constructed a series of stone stairways on the approach to Mystical. This was one of the first improvements ever to be done on this trail. Before hand it was a steep boulder strewn gully. Please be respectful and good stewards of this area, stay on the trail and respect Wolf Ridge's rules. Climbing in this area is a privilege. Thank you.

Comments: Dave Costello took this photo. The route is on the south side of the Palisade Head pennisula, not too far from the main shore line. He was able get access to beach across from the route and took some stellar shots. I believe he was completely zoomed in.

Comments: Hello,
I'm planning a trip here this winter. I was wondering when the climbs start forming up? Is late Dec. too early?
Thanks,
BR

Comments: True... That is the flake, I'm trying to talk to the guy who posted it and get it changed. Corner Geo is to the left of the this route.

Comments: Very fun lead. At least bring doubles of #1, #2, and #3. You might want a #4 (I ran it out a little). The offwidth is interesting. And it is many thanks to the MN DNR and State Parks that we have those huge bolts, custom made by their engineers. More may be coming!

Comments: This area is amazing for any level of climber. In addition to the climbs in Orient Bay, many of which are not listed, there are numerous ice and mixed lines in area. If you've done other climbs in this area please post them.

Comments: I didn't really enjoy this route. I thought it was a little stiff for 5.6. You could definantly use a #4 for the second pitch. There are much better climbs of that rating in the area.

Comments: This year the ice cone is fully formed and there is some thinner stuff (almost verglas) to the left of the main flow. There are some nice rock ledges and cracks for basic mixed moves as well. Fun to play around on.

Comments: I loved this route. I just TRed the first pitch but the movements were so much fun once I figured them out. The crux seemed to be near the first bolt. Gotta trust the JTree friction.

Comments: This route was my first trad lead. I have lead a couple since then and I have to say that I was able to place plenty of gear on the Eye. Long runners are nice. There is definant risk of decking onto a ledge but a climber who is starting to lead trad should be able to pull those easy moves no problem. Fun route.

Comments: You definently need to know how to jam. The transfer to the crack was the trickiest part. Awesome climb. Busy.
