Comments: A bit of history on the area: the (San Luis) Valley hardmen have been trad climbing and toproping here since the 1980s. They always called the nearby town Manassa and the climbing area "Rattlesnake Hill". Dave Mazel, Alan Haverfield, Mark Johnson, Brent "Shaggy" Edelen, and Jack Hunt were among the first ascensionists. Back in the day, there were only two bolted routes. One was on the obvious trad line up the middle of the formation. It... more >>

Comments: Relocated the top anchor up 10 feet higher today to a more user friendly ledge. Now shares top anchor with Patriotic Pleasure. It takes two raps to lower with a 70m rope.

Comments: Like the description says above, stay in the dark timber/drainage on the edge of north side of the talus field for the approach. Once you encounter the cliff band, traverse along its base to the climb. The approach takes about an hour.

Comments: Did this climb about six years ago. On the final approach the slope was whomping, moving, and settling all around us as we wallowed and swam uphill to the base. It would be a pretty spectacular setting for an avalanche. Better bring your snowshoes.

Comments: Park at the "Vertical Heartland" parking lot and make sure to register. The approach is about 10 minutes. Camping is available just a little further down Lick Creek Road at Twin Bluffs Bed n' Breakfast. The proprietors Neil and Laurie will let you camp in their field for a nominal donation. They also have a bunkhouse with fireplace for winter climbers.

Casting my vote to combine Coal Creek Canyon with Golden, and Eldora with Boulder to help clear up the site. Looking forward to the Ice link.
