Comments: Byron Hempel, The CASA Anchor Replacement Team has been there and done that. Steel draws to the chains and Locktite on all the nuts so hopefully they will not come loose as the top one did. The bolt was worn because the draw was swinging back and forth for a while so it would not tighten back down. Replaced that one with a new 4 1/2 inch SS 3/8th inch bolt.

Comments: The first 5.12 I ever put and probably the first 12 I ever climbed. Also the first route I ever rap bolted. After a long discussion with Steve Grossman while doing yard work at Paul Davidson's parents house. Steve almost convinced me to do it ground up even though I had top-roped it. Didn't really think it was 12 even though others thought so. I repeated it 5 or six years ago and it turns out to be a bouldery 12-.

Comments: Definitely need to be careful on the 9+ that starts up the layback crack. It is just left of Mariposa Primero and it is spooky getting the second bolt clipped. Dennis Cozzetti might be willing to adjust those bolts. A really good line none the less. If you aren't willing to to risk the injury don't do it or stick clip the second.

The left most 10+ Mariposa Primero is probably 11- or 11 and it joins the top of the the Mary Johns 10+ just left of Sting...

Comments: As with all routes on the steeper right side the higher you go the better it gets. Nice job cleaning this one up John! I dare say you did a better job on this than I may have done on the routes to the right. Not that anyone is going to die but bits and pieces will dribble down for awhile.

Comments: If your belayer climbs up the chimney you can reach the ledge lowering off with a 70M rope. Be sure and tie a knot in the end of the rope. 80 meter probably works but I haven't tried it.

Comments: So the question I asked myself when I was drilling it up was this; should I put in six bolts which is what I would need to do it, or should I put in 12 bolts so anyone can climb it. Since Jim and I had the benefit of a TR to clean it and set it up it would mean nothing personally to do it with run outs. It is a sport route so we bolted the crap out of it.

I can and do put up routes by soloing them first, sometimes ground up sometimes after TR runs to clean them. I could post them up with no pr... more >>

Comments: The route is two pitches. Build an anchor and finish it or put in a set of bolts up and left. I could do that if I get there this year. There used to be a poorly located anchor that allowed you to lower off after the first pitch but that got removed as is allowed people to avoid the finish of Reef Stricken.

Comments: I didn't realize you were asking about El Cuervo under Organized Labor. El Cuervo is epic and an experience that will stay with you. I do second some of those John suggests as well as Nevermore 5.12 and the four routes left of it. They may not be 12 but you will earn the onsights on them and they are shady pretty early. Head Doctor and Doctor's Orders are also shady early and allow you to warm up for other things headed for the shade.

Comments: Only know of three people who have ever done it. Me,Dean Brault and Eddie Mofardin. Outrageous crux way up in the air. Unfortunately or fortunately there is a big rest to the right just before the crux sequence. Some shenanigans to get down too. It is a route you will remember doing. Super good stone too as it is overhanging and orange.
