Comments: We were unable to link up the traverses across the whole escarpment. But high and low traverses from either end kept us busy for a good chunk of the afternoon. Bonus points to anyone who can link them up.

Comments: I climbed this yesterday, though I skirted to the right of the roof through the hand-crack/off-width. After you're above the roof, the top-out is heinous and dangerous--there's another 10' of "climbing" on super-loose dirt, leaves and moss with nothing solid to grab at all. A fall would be very serious.

Comments: We were searching for something super easy, and stumbled across this on Saturday. It was fun, there was plenty of solid pro here and there, but definitely were also plenty of tetchy placements to be avoided, and some blocks to be wary of pulling.

The Carolina Rocks guide says it's "closed," which we didn't know at the time. I don't think closure is really warranted, but I also wouldn't... more >>

Comments: Anchor 2nd Pitch: Save a couple of hand-sze cams (##1-4 C4s) for the anchor at the top and try to spare the trees. There's a good boulder set back from the edge about 15' with good placements. If you have the pro and build your anchor with the rope or a long cordalette, you can reduce the impact on the trees here (which see a lot of traffic).

Comments: The bolted rappel station for Sentinel Buttress is about 20 feet to the climber's right of where Zoo View tops out. Easy walking along the cliff edge, descend down about 5-10 feet onto a large, obvious ledge with a small tree on it. The station is on a vertical face in a corner.

Consists to two bolts, two quicklinks, and a length of cable which is frayed on the ends (and can really frazz up your rope's sheath).

A 70m rope gets you down to the Crow&@POU... more >>

Comments: Green X is where the belayer is tied in; green line is the belayer's clove into the first anchor bolt.

Yellow line is the anchor. Yellow X at each bolt, and a yellow X at the masterpoint.

Red line is the leader's rope. Red X is the fallen leader. Rope goes from belayer's harness, through masterpoint, marked with a yellow X, then through three pieces of protection marked with purple X.

Comments: "Perhaps the best bolted 5.11 in Wisconsin."

Really? A two-star route? How about the four-star Red Recollection at Qual Wall? Or the three-star Now or Never? Or the lovely, long Schizophrenia? Arguably this is the best bolted 5.11 at Neceedah, but not in Wisconsin.

I liked this climb, but the breathless hyperbole is over the top.

Comments: I hate those things. Aside from being ugly, I have an irrational terror that I'm going to trip over them and go tumbling over the edge of the cliff. It doesn't matter that they're 20 feet away from the cliff edge. They freak me out.

Comments: This is now the SECOND bolted line from to the right of Crackin' Up. The first is a new 5.10 called Born to Crimp.

Location: NC : Pilot Mountain : Amphitheater
By: Dylan B. When: Dec 12, 2014

Comments: The new bolted line--Born to Crimp--means that Turkey Shoot is no longer the leftmost bolted line on the slab in the amphitheater. The current descriptions are misleading because of this change. Yesterday we encountered a party that was about to head up a 5.11 that they thought was an 5.8, with too few draws to finish the line.

Comments: This route is really ready for a rebolting effort. The bottom four bolts are all very questionable. The first is a rusty old thing that's jammed in an upside down position. The second and fourth are both spinners. The third is positioned so the biner on your draw is leveraged over an edge. There's another spinner up much higher.

Comments: The anchors on Blinded by Lust are east to access from the top and make an easy rappel. There's also a 4th class, walk-off at the north end. The area doesn't need anchors for the trad climbs.
