Cruel Summer (Taylor’s version)

Description

What can be more cruel than bolting a new line but not being able to send it before you leave? The lack of holds at the crux are more cruel; that’s what. This line looks way more doable from the ground than Ursurper to the right, but alas, it is not.

Good slab moves gets you to bolt 2 with the crazy undercling, then some sort of levitation will be required to get from there to bolt 4. Going from there to the anchor is easier, but still no gimme.

Fellow Swiftie Slabmasters united and sent this rig in quick order after I took off for cooler temps. What it lacks in height, it makes up for with excellent rock and good position.

Location

Cruel summer is just to the right of Napoleon (probably a more direct line to the extension Iron Bloodline of Sancho the Strong), and to the left of Ursuper (for now, there could be another line bolted in between)

Protection

6 bolts

[Hide Comment] My best guess is that this is at least 5.11+. While I never got on Searching for Bobby Fisher, I was able to onsight Throne of Darkness, hanging draws, as well as many other hard slabs in the North Fork. I was never able to climb this line clean on lead or TR, so I’d be psyched to see it get a send and hear about the grade. Go get it Swifties! Jul 12, 2025

[Hide Comment] Slabbin’ is a lifestyle in the North Fork — can’t wait to give this a go!

Thanks for the additions, Dave! Jul 12, 2025

[Hide Comment] Likewise, Benton! You guys have done some great work so far. I appreciate the willingness to share beta and open it up to wanderlusters like me. Giving the Swifties something to work on is the least I could do.
I hope we can meet up next summer.
Cheers! Jul 12, 2025

[Hide Comment] What can be more cruel than two Swifties rolling up and onsighting this open project? Jokes aside, a sweet route and a good addition to the crag. Thanks for putting this up Dave! Jul 28, 2025

[Hide Comment] Nah, I knew the Swiftie Slabmasters would dispatch this pretty quick. We left town earlier than planned with 90 degree temps, otherwise I would have had more time to properly work it out. Regardless, good job getting it done. Who got it first? I'll update the page. Jul 30, 2025
