Description

The wide layback crack on the left side of the Animals Wall.

Follow the crack up through jugs and stellar laybacks, past the anchor for the Fox, and undercling/jam out the roof crack (crux) to an exposed stemming finish. Shares an anchor with the Scorpion.

VARIATION: The Bear Cub 5.7
Climb this crack up to the anchors of the Fox and end there.

NOTE: this is a trad line, for full value it requires several large cams and comfort walking them as it's a long pitch. Adjacent routes (the Flying Squirrel and the Fox) provide some bolts that are reachable from Bhalu... This makes it possible to climb Bhalu with less wide gear, as it's possible to protect sections with these bolts  on adjacent routes. It is also easy to set up a toprope for the Bear Cub variation by leading the Fox.

HISTORY: first bolt and one of anchor bolts added by Subhash S. in June 2024, freed up to this anchor. Second bolt and ring hangers added by Suraj Kushwaha in June 2025.

Location

Huge obvious wide crack on the left of the Animals Wall.

Protection

WIDE gear #2-#7, multiple #5s and #6s help, especially if avoiding bolts and/or if avoiding walking the cams. 2 ring bolt anchor courtesy of CDI.
