Description Suggest change

Surprised this isn’t documented anywhere, including the New England Ice Guide. It’s got a much more reliable ice pitch than Great Gully, and a simpler approach compared to PF Flyer. Still a lot of walking for one pitch of ice, but makes a great alpine climbing or ski mountaineering objective.

From the base of Great Gully, locate the curved gully to lookers right of Great Gully. Bushwack to a short distance to a narrow snow gully. Climb for a few hundred feet to a short ice pitch, WI1 or so. A little more snow leads to a 70 foot pitch of WI3. Climb this to access the upper snow gully, which slowly lessens in angle and trends diagonally up and left to gain the ridge.

Descent:

From here you can descend any of King Ravine gullies (hopefully you brought your skis). Or walk off via Lowe’s Path.

Location Suggest change

Far right side of King Ravine, look for the gully that trends diagonally down and right, before curving straight down, with the ice in the middle.

Protection Suggest change

A handful of screws.
