Description
The full route name is Variante Kakaroots e o Tesouro Perdido, it makes a great addition to climbing in Rio!
A moderate, three pitch sport climb with extremely generous bolting by Rio standards and an extremely easy approach. What's not to love??
This line follows the first pitch of Corrida de Ouro, put up in 2002, (with extra bolts installed with permission of the FA), which then breaks left at the end of pitch 1.
This climb follows a vertical runnel of crystalline rock splitting the usual coarse, slabby granite, which provides tons of good, positive crimps and excellent face climbing.
P1: Climb straight up clipping bolts until you reach a two bolt anchor
P2: Climb straight up clipping bolts until you reach a two bolt anchor
P3: Climb straight up clipping bolts until you angle slightly left to reach a two bolt anchor
Three raps on a single 60m will see you to the ground
Location
The far left side of Cantagalo. This climb is easier to approach from the end of Rua Percy Murray rather than the normal Cantagalo approach.
From the end of Rua Percy Murray, jump over the blue fence just left of the gate. There are some real helpful ledges to avoid the spikes. I was assured by locals this is not trespassing. Once on the other side of the fence, go up a flight of concrete steps immediately on your right. Continue up the dirt trail when the steps run out, then hang a left when you hit a small stone wall, at which point you'll be very close to the cliff. Upon reaching the cliff, go climbers left about 30 feet to reach the base of Kakaroots. You'll know it by the shiny bolt line!
