The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Starting on the lowest holds to the left of the cave and a toe hook on the right side of the boulder, fire up to the lip with your right hand. Match, then walk your hands up the lip to the right until you can release your right hand to a good undercling under the roof. Then bump your right hand to the start of Thick Ass Thieves (the best hold on the underside of the roof). From here, climb Thick Ass Thieves up the left side of the prow utilizing the kneebar to pull the lip & top out.
The grade may feel closer to 8a if you are shorter and need to paddle up the lip, or 7c+ if you are a long one, and can do the boulder in 5 moves.
Location
Use the lowest holds on the left side of the underside of the boulder. Work up and right to the start of Thick Ass Thieves.
