Description
This route starts the same as The Classic. The climb goes up the big wide crack system where the main wall meets the left side of the Flying Buttress. Climb the crack system for about 30 feet (5.6) to a pink band. This is where The Classic traverses right and goes up to the tree belay. For Karl's Korner, continue up the wideness (5.9) another 100 feet or so. Belay at the same belay as The Classic pitch 2. Pitch 2 goes up the wide, low angle corner and passes the awkward roof above (difficult/awkward 5.7). Continue up the main corner/crack and belay near the top of the Flying Buttress. Pitch 3 traverses right, past several bolts, up the infamous High Exposure Exit (5.6+) of the Classic. Scramble to the top of the cliff and do the Coke Bottle rappels, or walk off to the right. Tremendous, classic, Granite Mountain route. The first pitch wideness can be intimidating, but don't let that stop you! Bring a double rack to #4 camalot and a 4.5 and 5 if you have them.
