Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Start seated as low as you can on the arete with your left hand on a sloping dish and your right hand on a sloping pinch in the roof. Lift your butt off the ground with your right heel, and slap your right hand to a sloping pinch hold (the crux). From here, slap left and right up into the higher start for Flash Flood, keep it together, and finish the same as for Flash Flood.
For what looks like it might be really dumpy, it actually climbs surprisingly well, and there’s no issue dabbing, since you’ll just fall if you lose tension.
I’m a squeezer, and this thing took me 4 days, once punting the very, very top jugs. At the very least, it’s hard 10, a generous person might say low end 11. Go see for yourself!
Location
This is a sit start to Flash Flood that ascends the right arete of Aqua Huck Boulder. See the pics for the starting holds.
