Description
Note: A key foot hold broke. It is now more difficult to get started off the initial ledge. I haven't climbed it, grade unknown. Climb line of bolts out to the right of the Friend from Kansas corner up to the large tree at the cliff top. (The 11mm static rope anchor was stolen off the tree, so take a cordilette and set up you own top rope, or belay from the top and walk down) The 2 bolt anchor just below the top was installed to allow 5.8 climbers to enjoy Jigsaw Puzzle. Folks capable of climbing the lower crux (between the 2nd and 3rd bolts) should continue this route all the way to the top. The 5.9+ finish up to the tree is good fun. youtube.com/watch?v=C1zQFqe…;t=2s
Location
Start behind the large tree at the base of the cliff in the "Friend from Kansas" area. (I start Gone to Texas at this same spot, but move up and right to the first bolt of that route) Climb the grungy and rotten green rock until you can stretch out left and clip the first bolt. Scramble up onto the ledge and start the good climbing. The rock is solid from the 2nd bolt to the top.
Protection
8 bolts. The anchor around the tree is 11mm static rope threaded through 1" webbing for UV protection. There are two separate pieces for redundancy. 2 resident carabiners will hopefully not be stolen. The anchor below the tree allows Jigsaw Puzzle to go at 5.8, but a climber capable of embarking on this route will enjoy the final 5.9+ crux up to the tree.
