Warning Access Issue: Temporary trail closure & Thumb and Needle Closures - resolved with The Thumb Open Space creation DetailsDrop down

Description Suggest change

Start the Grommet by climbing the blunt arete. Then climb past a rock fin, and gain the face above. Follow the bolt lin,e and climb up the face through sections of easier and harder movement culminating in the crux from bolt 6 to the anchors.

Either lower off from the anchors or climb past 2 more bolts to reach the summit of the Needle where a rap station on the NW corner can be used to descend.

Note: from high on the route at bolt 7, you can move right to reach the anchors on Suburban Hangover to set up a toprope. Or from bolt 6, you can traverse left to join History Lesson to climb its crux section passing 3 bolts to its anchor.

Location Suggest change

The Grommet starts about 30 feet left of Suburban Hangover at the base of a short, blunt arete with a wide crack in its right side.

Protection Suggest change

8 bolts to a 2 bolt anchor with Mussy hooks.
