Description

This is a variation on The "S" Buttress which climbs with more independent climbing than The "S" Buttress, which is to say it was less retrobolted by Pup than The main "S" Buttress line was. Start off as for The "S" Buttress and Pup, forgoing the first bolt on Pup, since you will be heading left. The gear here is good anyway, and no bolt is needed. Head left as for The "S" Buttress, and once on something of a ledge 6 meters up, continue left to a jagged crack through an overhang. Plug jams and locks as well as some gear to pass the bulge and get up onto a slab, heading quickly back right onto the main line, joining back to The "S" Buttress and Pup 6 meters over where those merge with the S Buttress Direct variation. Continue up the shared line common to all four lines to the bolted anchors above with Mussy hooks. A 60m rope will easily get you down, but belaying the second from the top is advised due to drag and potential rope wear.

Location

Head for the upper left corner of Upper Security Risk, and start off as for The "S" Buttress and Pup. This is shown on page 83 in the Haas/Weidner BoCan guidebook. Finish at the shared anchors with Pup.

Protection

A set of cams to 3" and maybe a few nuts. 2' slings are needed for this circuitous (S-shaped) route.
