Access Issue: Bridges Out! IMPORTANT LADWP NEGOTIATIONS!! Details

Due to liability concerns, bridges are being removed in the Owens River Gorge at the request of LADWP. The Bishop Area Climbers Coalition and the Access Fund are currently in negotiations with LADWP to get this issue resolved. In the meantime, please continue to be good land stewards by respecting these bridge closures and finding alternate crossing points until this issue is resolved.

1) Never park or camp overnight at the access points.
2) Always park off the pavement, taking great care to avoid blocking the gates.
3) Clean up after your dogs. (Local climbers are finding abandoned doggie poop bags.)
4) Pack out all trash and TP, including picking up after others.
5) Use the outhouses if at all possible.

Description

Scramble up a short pillar to the start of a steep, face with flakes & cracks. A moderate start leads to sustained 5.10 climbing.
A few cruxy sequences at the top of the face end at a full rest stance to the right of a blocky roof.
Continue up fun, techy moves past the small roof to an easier face & the anchors.

This route needs clean up. One of us may go back with a crow bar to it if someone else doesn't beat us to it. We climbed this route on February 18, 2024 and the majority of our party pulled large rocks off this route. I accidentally pulled off a rock that bounced, broke in half, and one half hit my belayer. Not cool. She is fine and kept climbing, but I still feel bad. The rock came off the summit block. The climber after me knocked a similar rock on a foot hold at the summit block. Stay on the bolt line as much as possible to avoid choss on black rock. Once the choss is cleaned up, this will be a much better rated route. Feb 21, 2024
