Olympus

5.8, Trad, 300 ft (91 m), 2 pitches, Grade III,  Avg: 1.8 from 5 votes
FA: Joe Cormier second pitch Var. Beau Decourcey
Maine > a. Western Moun… > Tumbledown Mtn Rock

Description

This Arete proved to be a lot easier climbing than at first glance.   Although the gear is sparse for the first pitch its really ok.  The beginning has no gear for fifty feet but is fifth class 5.1 with good holds.  go up through a tree band and move onto the arete placing a few cams for a nice mantel to the anchors.  Second pitch is money trend right around a pillar and through the overlap and up beautiful finger cracks to the summit.  The trail is right there!

Vector Sector 5.9 var.(with John Raymond)  At the second pitch move out right about 30ft on to the face and look for finger cracks and tops out

[Hide Comment] I'm confused. Is this route 5.8 or 5.9? Or is second paragraph talking about a variation? May 10, 2021

Ben - Mission to Mars was good fun! Thanks for putting that up :)
Side Note - I never found an anchor at top of first pitch and just built a gear anchor. Apr 4, 2022
