Tylers Crack

V0, Boulder, 15 ft (5 m),  Avg: 3 from 2 votes
FA: unknown
Minnesota > Duluth Area > Whopee Wall

Description

Route follows just below a crack that runs horizontal on the First Street side of the wall. Plenty of foot, and hand placements below the crack with some hands in the crack.

Location

First Street side of wall, marked on photo.

Protection

Crash pad and there is a slight slope down to the right of the problem.

This climb starts in the crack then drops and traverses left below the crack. There are TR routes that start in the same area, and this should clear up any confusion.

[Hide Comment] Just want to say that Taylor is a silly and should be nicer, especially to new users. Excited to see new routes being put up!

That being said, considering you are using the same photo, the same difficulty, and half of the same route, it might make more sense to have kept it to a single entry for similar posts in the future.

Either way, thanks for making more routes accessible to more people, especially ones this close to the city! Apr 8, 2021

[Hide Comment] Looks like my comments got deleted for some reason. Not sure if they got flagged or what. I didn't sugar coat it, but I suppose I could provide a little more explanation than my original short comment. I have also responded via PM to the route poster with even more information to help out.

Both of these recently submitted routes to the whoopee wall are just link ups of existing routes and in my opinion do not need their own route name and description on MP. A comment on either ‘The Whope Wall’ or ‘The Longest Yard’ would be much more appropriate.

I will upload a picture from a page of the ‘Superior Climbs’ guidebook to the main Whoopee Wall page clear things up.

To go into more pedantic detail, this route starts on ‘The Whope Wall’ traverses onto ‘The Longest Yard’ and then steps over finishing in the third class access gully before the top crux of The Longest Yard. And the other route is pretty much the same, but you use the crack for your feet instead of hands.. So these being 2 different link-up entries is even more unnecessary.

Whoopee wall has been climbed all over for 40 years and I would be quite surprised if this link up wasn’t already done at some point, but never given a name. Adding names and descriptions to the Whoopee Wall MP page for all possible variations just adds confusion and isn’t really that helpful. Like I said, just a comment on the routes would be much better. Apr 9, 2021
