Michigan > Upper Peninsula > Marquette (and… > 550 Roped > Sugarloaf Mtn R… > Sunset Gully

Description

Fun short climb, starts out with a ledge traverse that zig zags its way up to the main feature, a slab with a nice crack that lets you get a whole leg in and crawl your way up, if you so choose. Larger pro required, a 4 just fit the main crack ...5 or larger useful . A little dirty and a little mossy but that just adds to the adventure.

To get down you can walk-off down to your left back to the sunset gully. From the top you can see 'water streak down'.

A top rope can be set-up, there are plenty of cracks at the top to make an anchor using pro.

Location

On the approach to Sunset Gully, the cliff on your right before you reach the base of the main walls. Tall pine sits on a ledge at the base of the climb, many loose rocks and small shrubbery on the approach to the wall. A small scramble up to the ledge is necessary.

Protection

Lager Pro, 3,4,5 for main crack, .75, 1, 2 also useful.

[Hide Comment] I was going to drop in on this today but there is lots of loose on and near the top. Couldn't set a good anchor even. My 2c is let's keep this crag solid only. This looks sketchy to me and I'd recommend to stay off it. May 2, 2021

[Hide Comment] This is a fun little line. Jaren, you criticized it without climbing it, and you gave it a “bomb.” Not all risk can (or should be) eliminated from climbing. If you saw loose rock, do the community a solid and clean it. Fun line Nicholas! Sep 12, 2021
[Hide Comment] The whole anchor area felt loose to me so too much to clean. Maybe I didn't spend enough time searching for a spot that didn't move. I asked Brandon about it that day when I was there and he had the same first impression. I'm ok with being wrong sometimes. If it's actually good then you can remove the comments with your mod powers maybe? Or just leave it, doesn't hurt anything. Removed bomb based on your feedback. Sep 12, 2021
