I may have some info here incorrect? route name, FA other?
The hunter's slabs have two large main ice flows a right and a left
they can be seen from sams knob and one or two spots on the road.
On highway 215 coming from Canton NC. at the second stone bridge (first is sunburst falls) find the one or two car sparking spot just before the bridge on the left side.
the hike can be done several different ways:
Option one: cross the bridge and cut up through the relatively dense dog briar and rhodo there is kinda a trail but it is also kinda a struggle. I believe this is the way described in the book and the way the FA parties approached? I came down this way...
Option two: cross the bridge and drop down into the main river bed, go down stream 60-70ft or until you notice the small creeks on your left that join into the main river. Make some scramble moves to get out of the main creek bed and head uphill, I have found there are two parallel creek beds here and the vegetation in-between them is minimal. Once you are half way pup you will be able to see the two flows up and out left, at some point you may end up in the left creek bed eventually, find a good spot to cross the cousin Merle gully(climbers left gully) and minimal bush wack through dog briar to gain the base of the hunter slabs
