Groveling Gibsters

5.11+, TR, 70 ft (21 m),  Avg: 3 from 1 vote
FA: Petch Pietrolungo 1990s
California > Northwest Calif… > Moonstone Beach > Karen Rock

Description

Use any approach to reach the Sand Dollar Arete. Climb the LEFT side of the arete for it's entirety, A few techy sections and some nice sloper reach-arounds hidden on the other side of the arete. Drop the rope a foot left of the arete and it surprisingly does not climb contrived at all. Made possible by a new anchor.

Location

Just right of Assembly Line

Protection

Two bolt anchor. Make sure to rig it to drop over the left face.

[Hide Comment] I'd love a consensus grade on this one. I have been resting from a torn muscle and being a general fat ass, so I really have no idea the grade on this one. I rigged the anchor using one of the bolts from Assembly Line, but I think that was unnecessary. Fantastic line! Jan 23, 2021
[Hide Comment] The FA on this was done by Petch back in the early 90's. Mar 25, 2022

[Hide Comment] Interesting, I’m curious what he used for an anchor. Maybe one bolt from Assembly Line and that tree 50’ up the hill to the right? There aren’t any worthy shrubs currently. Funny how history gets lost when nobody talks about it or records it. Mar 25, 2022
[Hide Comment] Evan, you can always ask Petch. My memory of this is 30 years old, so I could be wrong.
By the way, the work you have put in at all these local sites is awesome. You definitely deserve much credit and thanks. Thank you for taking care of our local climbing areas! Mar 30, 2022
