Arete-chen

FA: Dr. Dan
Colorado > Steamboat Springs > Cougar > Main Amphitheater

Description

This is the front of the pillar and will be the first climb that you come to when you access the Main Amphitheater, assuming you don't go climb up to the splitter behind the tree (#2). It's tricky in spots and has a mid-route ledge. This is not awesome but good enough to do once or twice.

Location

This is in front of the pillar and the first thing that you come to if you stay on the access trail to the Main Amphitheater. It's right there on the exposed corner of the pillar that you have to skirt past, but it's easy to miss. I probably walked past it a dozen times before I ever noticed it.

Protection

Bolts.

[Hide Comment] Unfortunately odd bolt placements and the misdrilled bolt near the crux detract from this otherwise fun, engaging route. Dec 5, 2020

[Hide Comment] The first ascent on this one was Dr. Dan. He calls it Arete-chen, I think. The grade is quite a bit harder than 10a, possibly 10d/11a. Fun climbing, and you can toprope the unbolted route just to the right. Dec 5, 2020
