A long and exposed Via Ferrata ascending Seemauer with views down onto the picturesque Leopoldsteiner See. An optional end of this Via Ferrata is an airy cable bridge spanning a 30 ft gap. Another nearby attraction is the Rosslochhöhlen-Klettersteig, which leads through a 210 ft deep cave.
The Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Klettersteig starts with an overhanging entrance (rated D). An easier section follows until a short hike continues to the next section. If you have troubles at the first overhang, take the emergency exit here back down hiking path 822. After the short hiking section a the route ascends a fun dihedral and leads onto the exposed main column. After this section the difficulties ease and another short hiking section continues to the short exit climb. Ascend the arete up to the optional cable bridge.
Follow the easily visible path to the left until you hit the hiking path 822 after about 200 ft. Now you can either follow this path back down into the valley to the start of the route (~2 h) or continue to the right to reach Rosslochhöhlen-Klettersteig (D/E) in about 20 min.
Attention, the descent is very steep and can be slippery when wet!
Alternative: Following the hiking path 822 to the right for about 60 min will lead to the summit of Hochblaser. Keep following this marked path down towards Seeau und along the lake back to the parking lot (~4 h).
From Eisenerz follow B115 north-west, turn right on Seestraße and follow signs for Leopolsteinersee parking (bring coins for the parking ticket machine!). Park at the Leopoldsteiner See parking lot and walk past the restaurant. Follow the signs to Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Klettersteig for about 15 min to the start of the Via Ferrata.
