Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Climb 5.9 for two bolts up the corner to a ledge, right of the bolt line. Step left, and climb delicate and technical moves on crimps and slopers for two more bolts (crux) leading to a stem rest in the corner to the left under the prominent roof. Rest here, then blast to the chains on slightly easier terrain.
Take care on the first two bolts as a fall will cause a pretty big swing leftward into the opposing corner.
The rock is good quality. It would be 4 stars if it were longer.
Location
This route is in a corner on clean rock about 100m to the right (west) of the main part of the cliff hosting Designer Genes and Soma in a easy-to-recognize dihedral. When approaching Conspiracy, you will see this corner to the right of the trail; there is a faint fork about 100m before you reach the main wall, allowing you to head straight for Alien Autopsy from that point.
