Frosted Flakes

5.9-, Sport, TR, 40 ft (12 m),  Avg: 2.1 from 9 votes
FA: unknown
Hawaii > Oahu > Makapu'u Point

Description

Use route 8 bolts and start through route 7/8 dihedral but after the first bolt cut left and finish the climb to the left of route 8 bolts (between routes 8 and 9 on topo). Crux is maneuvering v-shaped flake with minimal footholds about half way up. From there follow the crack that curves in from the left side. Avoiding stemming in dihedral after first bolt moves this route to 5.9 category

Location

between routes 8 and 9 on topo

Protection

bolts and anchors on top (sport or toprope)

[Hide Comment] Don’t know if Samantha really got the FA. I’ve definitely climbed the described route above and assumed it was just route 8. I first saw two guys from Sweden climbing it a year or so before I even tried it. There is a hand foot match at the crack that helps. Good feet out left and there is a sneaky right foot chip under the flake. Anyway fun route. Nov 6, 2019

[Hide Comment] After climbing this route I’d have to agree/disagree with the rating 5.9 up until the second bolt when you start climbing left away from the dihedral and up to the next bolt, climb is decently technical and has a little bit of every kind of hold from crimps to hand jams. The last section from final bolt to anchor is very technical ending with a toe hook to help clip into anchor. Overall rating from myself 5.10a Apr 19, 2020
