Description Suggest change

From the Brewer Creek Trailhead, wind up thru the forest heading west breaking out above treeline just below 8000'.  The route is fairly obvious to follow up the Brewer Creek Drainage.  From a moraine at 9600' (good camping) the route heads up directly, splitting the middle of the Hotlum and Wintun glaciers.  Above 11,000' the route steepens, and climbers have the choice of two steep snowfields on either side of a rocky tongue. The most common route traverses south, climber's left, to join the upper Wintun Glacier.  Both snow slopes clock in close to 45 degrees and lead to the summit.  Reverse the route back to  Brewer Creek Trailhead.

Location Suggest change

On the northeast side of Mt. Shasta.  The route begins at 7200' from the Brewer Creek Trailhead.  The trailhead has pit toilets and a station for self issue climbing permits and wag bags.

Protection Suggest change

Basic snow climbing gear. Skis/snowboards strongly recommended.
