Graded E1 with a tech grade of only 4c, a rightfully terrifying combination and true mental testpiece for the slate.

This follows the striking line up the arete on the dike projecting into the center of the California Quarry, a route to stare at and wonder if you have it in you.

Two options to start: either climb directly from the base of the arete, or scramble up and mantle onto the blast shelter roof and follow jugs up and right to the arete.

From there, get yourself ready and start heading up, and think carefully about making a terrifyingly exposed high step. Switch sides to follow easier holds to the bolted anchors on the left hand side at the top.

A 70m or two ropes is needed to descend from said anchors. Alternatively, scramble along the ridge and exit to the left, requiring a bold step to get to a tunnel that will deposit you in the Serengeti.  Scramble down to the walkers path from here.

When you pass through the second tunnel into California, this is the striking, unmistakable arete.

No gear (theoretically a singular poor wire and bad sling placement, both of which are after the crux). Bolted anchors.
