Description Suggest change

Really long hike with an alpine ascent to the summit.  Amount of snow and ice depends on the season.  Early October saw snow and ice about 1km from the summit. 11 mile loop includes svartifoss(waterfall) and is recommended.  Or you can start the trail backwards, out and back style for a 9 mile trip.  Ice axe and crampons will be required.  Rope isnt a bad idea.  Amazing views of the glacier and other mountains.  Scenery is out of this world.  Careful of the winds, and go light.

Location Suggest change

Recommend camping the night before to get an early start.  Great campground.  Starting out in the Skaftafell Campground, go to the visitor center or the trailhead and decide your route.  Prepare for a long hike.  Trail is along the Skaftafelljokull Glacier(A sub glacier of Vatnajokull, Europe's Largest Glacier.

Protection Suggest change

Ice axe, Crampons, Rope, Screws(depending on snow and Ice amounts)
