My First Rodeo

5.10, Sport, 55 ft (17 m),  Avg: 3 from 9 votes
FA: Alec Luther & Bryan Pletta, Fall 2018
New Mexico > Albuquerque Area > Boot Hill

Description

Climb up to the first two bolts on large blocks/ ledges. The bottom crux is tightly bolted in the crack over a small roof, moving left after bolt 3. Continue on the left face (in close proximity to "Bolt Action") to bolt #4 , and follow the line back right on the the last 3 bolts through a more sustained section. An alpine draw is recommended for bolt #6 to reduce drag.

As of now, there are two anchors in place. The lower one on the face does not have chains ( recommended for top ropes ). The anchor after topping out over the large flake to the left, does include chains for cleaning. The grade currently stands at 10b/c after some rock fell off right around the crux. The move is fairly height dependent, the taller you are, the easier this climb should feel.

Location

Located just right of Bolt Action (5.9). There is an obvious overhang at bolt 2 with a thin crack on the face above it.

Protection

8 or 9 bolts to the high anchor w/ chains after topping out. Optional two bolt anchor lower on the face w/o chains.

[Hide Comment] Thanks for the feedback Noah! Glad to hear this from someone else who's helped establish the area. I'm excited to see what Boot Hill will look like in the coming years. Mar 25, 2019
