Access Issue: CONSTRUCTION JULY 2020 TO 2022
Details
Construction on the long-term mitigation work in Cougar Creek will be starting soon. This page contains information on the Debris Retention Structure and will be updated on a regular basis during construction - keeping you up to date on impacts in the area.
Construction Timelines - Updated June 3, 2020
At this time we are still moving ahead with capital projects, this project is a key piece of infrastructure for the safety of the community. The contract to construct the Debris Flood Retention Structure has been awarded to Flatiron Constructors Canada Limited. The contract was awarded at a value of $32.8 million. They bring essential experience in building large infrastructure projects in challenging locations.
We expect construction to start in early July
Construction will be completed in 2022, with final landscaping complete in 2024
Trails in the area will be impacted in the following way:
Cougar Creek Canyon will be closed during construction
The two multi-use pathways on either side of the creek will remain open - short closures may be necessary
Montane trail and the Horseshoe trail systems will remain open - short closures may be necessary
The Lady MacDonald Trail will remain open - short closures may be necessary

Description
As Per Evan Hau's Description:
"New one at Planet X. Cobalt Gecko. Around 14c. I've fallen in love with these slightly off vertical routes lately. Just to the right of Iron Butterfly. The route has been looked at previously but I finished up the bolting and rejigged it about a month ago. Took me awhile to figure out a sequence through it that ended up being super cool!"
