Description

The Afterthought is one of the best V9’s in Joes Valley. The bullet rock, perfect sidepulls, and uncontrived movement are what makes it so good. Start squatting with the right hand on an okay sidepull and the left on a sloper sidepull opposing the right hand. Pull on with difficulty and make a hard bump with the left to a pretty good sloper sidepull. Adjust the feet and lunge to a good sloper at the lip. Top out on crimps. On first sight, this looks like a very doable V9, but pull of the ground and you will quickly find out why it never gets done. Nonetheless, the Afterthought is a classic rock climb and should not be missed.

Location

The leftmost route on the Slasher boulder. Up the hill from the warm-up boulders. It is a big square looking boulder.

Protection

Three or four pads. The problem is not far off of the ground but the dyno is uncontrolled.
