Access Issue: Seasonal Peregrine Closure Details

The park closes on February 1st and remains closed until July 15th to protect nesting peregrine falcons. Their annual nesting spot is on the Shining Wall, though they can be heard year-round. Please respect the closure and DO NOT CLIMB AT MADRONE WALL BETWEEN FEB 1st AND JULY 15th. Updates to the status of the park will posted on Clackamas County Park's website - clackamas.us/parks/madronew… - and on the Madrone Wall Preservation Committee facebook page - facebook.com/madronewall/.

Description

This route starts by heading up the left curving crack about 5' left of the start for Wild Things. Work your way up slightly awkward, but cool moves through the crack until you can access a small stance just left of the roof. From there, pull steep moves on awesome jugs past two bolts and a few gear placements until you reach a roof below the anchors. Pull into the slot to get to the anchors.

The second lead bolt (an improperly placed, rusty 3/8" stud bolt with an SMC hanger) was removed and replaced lower and to the right. Besides being stronger and safer long-term, this reduces rope drag and the potential fall distance. Dec 11, 2017

The crux of this route felt on par with Nouveau Riche. The bottom crack puts you in an awkward, but interesting position. Burn your big gear here. The upper crack (after the bolts) takes smaller gear.

Cleaning this route is a tricky proposition. Consider having your partner follow the route to clean. Sep 19, 2022
