Higher education is a matter of perception. Scramble up easy terrain past a cedar tree on your left to the first bolt. Climb past the second bolt to a horizontal crack that takes good cams, continue up to the third bolt, search around for some more cams in horizontals, then clip the fourth bolt to protect the crux moves to the top of Higher Education Ridge. Reach left to clip the chains.

Two sets of switchbacks and three minutes up the trail from Frat Boy; look for a very short spur trail leading under a few trees, the highest of which is a cedar tree. The first bolt is up and right. Only route in this part of the sector.

Single set of cams to 3 inches (a No. 3 blue Camalot) and draws. You’ll probably place no more than 5 cams; consider the rest a form of weight training.

Thinking this was Basic Aeronautics, I brought exactly what that route calls for: .5, .75, #3 cams. Turns out that's exactly what I needed to lead this one. Ha! Apparently my reading comprehension needs a tweak, back to school I go...

Eye opening crux up top; not a gimme. Nov 15, 2017
