Wyoming > Lander Area > Sinks Canyon > Shady Side > School

Description

The Grand Adventure is the centerpiece of the School Wall. Easly defined as the route that pulls a 5 foot roof to a finger crack in a corner. This climb is equipped with 3 sets of anchors getting harder the higher you climb. Juggy fun near vertical 5.8 to the first set, then low angle crimps and pockets 11a to the second set, and finally 2 bolts of intimidating 11c roof/crack climbing to the last set of anchors. All 3 sections very different from each other and are worth doing.

Location

Hike to the school wall this is the tallest route easily defined by the bolted roof/crack near the top.

[Hide Comment] Super fun. the slab section looks so blank but has a couple "big" pockets and killer edges that are so yummy. Did this one before the slab to the left and if this one is 11a for the slab, then I have a hard time thinking the one to the left is 11a...its so much harder. Apr 24, 2018
[Hide Comment] This route was actually done by Mike Lindsey and Tom Hargis. It was originally bolted with two anchors in late 90s. It was restructured over the years. The original name was "Vertical Smile" Aug 27, 2019

[Hide Comment] Mike, would you like the name to be changed to Vertical Smile? Also any history corrections are greatly appreciated. Sep 4, 2019
[Hide Comment] We did the 5.8 first pitch that had been there for a while. Our route continued up a very shallow left facing corner to under the roof with a right facing crack to the anchor (the crux). We named it "Vertical Smile" due to the crack at the top resembling a butt (;>). So that was the original route and name. Sep 14, 2019
