Description

In Spring, start with a moderate snow climb into the gully proper which leads to a short WI3 ice crux below a giant chockstone directly overhead. Continue up the gully on some more snow, easy ice, and mixed terrain. About 3/4's of the way up, the gully narrows to a section about 3-4 foot wide which presents the mixed crux of the route. Climb your way out of the narrow section onto more snow above, and top out on the hiker's trail leading to Mt. Spaulding. Work your way back to the Chicago Lakes Overlook via this trail.

Location

This route is located uphill and approximately 100 yards climber's right of Snorkmaiden's Surprise. The description for this route is for the rightmost gully in the twin gully system.

Protection

A light alpine rack to include a stubby ice screw or two and possibly a few pins.
