the Wave - Unnamed 3

5.10a/b, Sport, 25 ft (8 m),  Avg: 2.3 from 13 votes
FA: Pastor
Arizona > Northern Arizona > Oak Creek Canyon > Lower Pumphouse Wash

Description

Short, one move wonder route that feels more like a highball boulder problem. Start right of the bolts to get into the pit, clip the first bolt, move left, clip the 2nd, and jump to a great jug. Follow more jugs to the top.

Location

Easy to identify the smooth wave like formation on the right side of the canyon when heading upstream. A few minutes past the entrance area (with the log and the splitter 5.10 route), right where the canyon tightens down.

Protection

3 bolts -- 2 bolt anchor.

[Hide Comment] Set this at 10d since that's what the book has it, but it felt significantly easier. Maybe 10a, even if you're short and have to jump to the jug. Worth doing once since the moves are more like something you'd do in a gym. Jun 11, 2017

[Hide Comment] It's probably worth thinking about whether a 3 bolt one move wonder belongs in a beautiful place like Pumphouse wash. Jun 12, 2017

[Hide Comment] Gave it a 10c. I really enjoyed the short climb. The middle move or two is definitely where the business is, though I wouldn't say that its a one-move wonder simply because the 'crux' is one move. The whole thing climbs well. Saw various beta in our group today. Ran some laps for the fun of it. Sep 29, 2018

[Hide Comment] Anyone that wouldn't have fun on this little one doesn't belong in a beautiful place like Pumphouse Wash. Nov 1, 2020

[Hide Comment] Beautiful looking line , and surprisingly juggy up top . If you’re under 5’9” you may need to dyno , but it’s super well protected. Apr 25, 2021
