Student Daze

5.8 R, Trad, TR, 90 ft (27 m),  Avg: 1 from 3 votes
FA: Chris Gill and students, 1984
New Hampshire > Whitehorse Ledge > 8) The Last Wave Slab

Description

START - 2-3 ft left of the faint dike of Surfing Primitives [see photo posted in Surfing Primitives] , or 15-20 ft left of The Last Wave.

Webster's Guidebook gave this a "5.7+" but we felt there was enough "+" that the 5.8 was warranted. Still, on a relative basis it is much better protected than it's neighbor "Surfing Primitives".

P1 - Make a big step up over a small overlap just off the ground, then traverse left beneath a larger overlap (gear, but watch the potential for rope drag) to a 6 ft (+/-) high corner. Up this, then a committing but not hard step right onto slab. Now back right under a second overlap [small-to-medium cam(s)] and continue right until below a small flake that arches left. Up over this (crux) to easier friction above. Belay at an overlap (0-.75 Camalot) with a maple tree above.

100 - 110 ft 5.8R

If you are top roping off the maple tree and Cam(s) you may need to extend the anchor sling to TR with a 60m rope.
