Buffalo Soldier

FA: unknown
Massachusetts > N Shore > Cape Ann > Dykes Pond (Glo… > N Side > Remnant Boulder… > Mansion Boulder

Description

Stand start, and head up the easy backside of the largest boulder in the remnants area. It is easy. This could definitely use some cleaning.

The longer you trend up and left without going over the arete onto the slab, the more fun it is.

Location

This is on the largest boulder in the Remnants area. Head left around the boulder from Penalty Box, and it will be obvious.

Protection

A pad or two.

Straight up onto the slab, or hang a bit left for some extra fun.

[Hide Comment] There's a good problem that starts on the left arete (see pic) of this boulder and traverses up and onto the slab. Getting situated on the slab is crux if I remember. Not sure what's its called.

Edit: it might be Cold Justice. May 21, 2017

[Hide Comment] Hey Jim - when Old Timer says "the rightmost" or "furthest right" boulder in the Remnants area (see Brain Scan as well) - is he talking about this boulder? May 24, 2017
[Hide Comment] Not sure, Blake. Hopefully Pete will chime in.

And to add to the confusion I might be wrong about this boulder. The boulder I was thinking of is not far from the trail near the first junction from the New Way Lane parking. It's maybe (if memory serves) part of a stone wall. It's not the biggest. If true, the rightmost boulder would then be the boulder to the right if you were standing in the Remnants area and roughly facing the parking lot (or the main path in).

The biggest boulder there has that nice steep blank face and is further back from the path.

If you are putting up a lot of routes there, it might be worth naming the individual boulders to avoid any confusion.

Good luck! May 24, 2017
