DescriptionThis is the most obvious ice that drips from the underside of a large roof. It is reliable and almost always fat and climbable. It's south-facing aspect means there is often a layer of sun-baked mush on the surface.
Go up a steep step below a large nose of rock (or up the slabs to the left) to a large left-facing corner capped by a giant roof. Traverse the ice around the left end of the roof, then up to the trees.
LocationFrom the Round Pond Trailhead, walk towards Malfunction Junction about 200 yards. On the north side of the road, look for a low cliff with large overhangs and an obvious ice flow beneath.
Walk up through the giant boulders to the base, about 10 minutes from the car to base. The boulders can be quite challenging in deep snow.
