Description [Edit]

Though not in any 'Best of Maui' guidebook, the best thing to do in Maui is deep water soloing and the associated cliff jumping at this location. This route is between 'Falling Off the Face of the Earth' and 'Nesting In the Gallows'. The route follows a left-facing flake and transfers to a right-facing flake up a steep blunt arĂȘte. Big holds and fairly sustained. Watch for loose holds at the top.

Location [Edit]

'The Backside' is 500 feet to the North of the famous Black Rock at Kaanapali Beach. You can climb and cliff-jump with the tourists at the smaller Black Rock, or venture to 'The Backside' for a significant upgrade in both venues.

Protection [Edit]

Deep water solo above the blue Pacific Ocean.
