Per Diego Concha: I called the DCR today and spoke to a ranger who said they no longer allow climbing at Rattlesnake Rocks because of endangered species that live near the crag and are sending climbers to Quincy Quarries nearby.

Description

Climb up the talus to a low-angle slab to the right of the distinguishable Cape Eternity Roof. Follow the finger crack that that tends to the right (crux) and then upward. A more difficult (5.7) start begins at the lower, steep wall; this joins the upward-leading section of the (somewhat) continuous crack. This route has a fun horizontal step or two (at the bottom of the slabby face) with a tiny bit of exposure over a small drop. Why can't this route be longer?

Location

Begin right of the Cape Eternity Roof and positioned above the steep wall on the right side of The Overlook. Look for the crack that tends to the right and then upward.

Protection

A standard rack or a toprope.

Good gear (nuts, small cams), a couple of spots with a little exposure, and several rests make placing gear easy. If it was longer, this would be better. As the name implies, this is a perfect slab for early leaders or new climbers on TR. Sep 2, 2017
