Description

Air Africa is a great 'mixed' climb. Although I am not a big fan of this concept in sport crags, the upper section follows a line of two cracks that take excellent gear. It is somewhat hard to place on lead (especially on an onsight attempt), but totally doable, and the gear is BOMBER!

The climb starts with about 8m of easy climbing (5.6) to the top of the pillar (which bounds the left/ west side of the sector). The crux is right off the deck (at the 2nd bolt)- a powerful "bouldery" sequence (v7/8) on steep wall to a thin crack (2 fixed nuts) and a thank-god jug (rest). Make hard moves up then left to a wider crack (hard-to-place bomber #1 and #2!), and continue up, past a bolt and a good # .75 to the anchor. While the upper section past the bolt is never harder (or easier) than 5.11, the real pump is here, and you can totally find yourself flying into Africa Air....

Location

Far left of Giorgis wall. Look for the pillar going up to a steep section of rock.

Protection

rack of nuts and a few cams, quickdraws for the bolts.
