Practice Aid Route

A2, Trad, TR, Aid, 40 ft (12 m),  Avg: 2 from 1 vote
FA: unknown
N Carolina > 1. Southern Mou… > Looking Glass Rock > N Side

Description

This is a 40 ft crack/seam that runs vertically up a boulder downhill from North Side. It is a great route to practice your aid climbing skills on. I used a hammer for the first 20 feet but it opens up near the top. It is easy to set up a TR on this route. There is also a good boulder at the base to build an anchor for soloing.

Location

Follow the rocky drainage beginning in the boulder field down hill until you see a large boulder. The route is on the downhill side of that boulder. You should end up directly downhill of the routes "Glass Menagerie" and "Creatures of Waste"

Protection

3-4 Beaks
Maybe a LA but try to use cam hooks
Small nuts and Cams up to finger size

[Hide Comment] Make sure you aren't destroying any of the boulders in the boulderfield! There are more routes established there than you'd imagine and many people care greatly about these boulders. Mar 27, 2016

[Hide Comment] Brad, I have great respect for the boulder field and have been climbing there most of my life. This boulder is way downhill and is impossible as a free route. I really appreciate your concern and respect for the area. Mar 27, 2016
