Witholding Evidence

5.9, Trad, 100 ft (30 m),  Avg: 2.7 from 16 votes
FA: Bill Robins & Paul Certa (1998)
Washington > Central Region > Frenchman Coule… > Echo Basin > Sunshine Wall > (c) King Pins

Description

Pretty fun moves through undulating bulges, climbs like Boschido.
Somewhat distracting are the bolts of Boschido all the way up.
Surprisingly clean, maybe people have been TRing this off the Boschido anchor.

Location

left side of Boschido column.

Protection

Mostly in the finger size range, but there are a number of pods for larger cams, or hexes would work. Can use Boschido anchor or the anchor I added to Trad Death route or top out and rap off Crackmaster.

Looking up "Witholding Evidence" and "Boschido". No good pro until ~18ft off the deck, can wrestle in a couple micro cams a few feet lower to protect a steep-feeling couple moves to get established.

[Hide Comment] Lead this yesterday, needed more finger size pieces, but it went clean and beautiful with very spaced gear, maybe placed 6 or 7 total pieces in the .4-.75 range. Oct 3, 2018

[Hide Comment] Gear: Lauren led this yday, placing a lot of gear :)
All the grey to green BD we had; one #1 and one #2 towards the top iirc, and clipped one bolt on Boschido with a double before the anchor. Oct 18, 2020

[Hide Comment] Difficult to protect the first 15ft, I got in a 0.1 WC ZF and a 0.1/0.2 Z4 offset and equalized. (BD sizes) From there 2-3 each of 0.3-0.75, a #1, a #2, a medium nut or two, then clipped last bolt of Boschido with a runner to protect the offwidth (I didn't carry any cams bigger than a #3). Easy reach around to Boschido anchors from OW top. Decent jams, cleaner than expected, some great moves! Apr 2, 2021

[Hide Comment] I climbed this 4/18/22. It is really good. Cleaned some loose rock near the bottom, still hard to protect but now there’s a bomber.75 placement at 15 feet up. I thought about a anchor or directional bolt at the top and with Boshido anchor there it did not seem worth it. Apr 20, 2022
[Hide Comment] I thought this was a fun climb, kind of more of a sport climb in movement with trad protection. You can get a 0.1 in fairly early and then a 0.5 to protect the start. From there it will take mostly everything you have from 0.3 - 1. I think I placed three 0.5s and 0.75, but there are numerous options. I clipped an extended runner to the last Bochido bolt to finish it off and used it's anchor for a top rope with a few directional pieces left in place. Would be nice if this climb had a dedicated anchor. Nov 20, 2023
