Takin' it Easy, Takin' it Slow

5.7+, Sport, 65 ft (20 m),  Avg: 1.8 from 19 votes
FA: Josh Pollock and Jake Waples, November 2015
Colorado > Golden > Lookout Mtn Rd > Tiers of Zion > B. Upper Tier > C. Fourth Triangle

Description

This is the bolted face on the upper section of the Fourth Triangle. Two variations exist for the start:

Takin' it Easy (5.7/5.7+?)-- goes straight up the steep face for 25 feet, then gradually works left on juggy terrain to the anchors. The crux is between bolts 1 and 2- thin moves.

Takin' it Slow (5.6)-- follows the shallow dihedral to the left for 25 feet, then breaks right up the face to join Takin' it Easy at the juggy terrain. A thoughtful step out of the dihedral onto the face will get you past the short crux.

Location

This is on the NE face of the upper section of the Fourth Triangle. To access it, rap from the anchors on the summit or scramble in from the woods to the west. Belayers can anchor off a small tree on the top of the lower section.

Protection

Takin' it Easy (5.7/5.7+?)-- 7 bolts + 2-bolt anchor.
Takin' it Slow (5.6)-- 6 bolts + 2-bolt anchor.

[Hide Comment] This route is fun, but like other routes in the area, it needs to be scrubbed down with a brush to clean up the holds. Nov 23, 2015

[Hide Comment] I cleaned a few holds today, but it could use more cleaning sometime. Oct 18, 2017

[Hide Comment] Suuuper chossy; lichen everywhere. The first few moves are surprisingly thin, with small holds, for the grade. The anchor is quite nice however; you can sit while you set a rappel, enjoying the view. Because of all the lichen, I don't expect to do this again. Sep 9, 2019

[Hide Comment] Takin' it Easy (right variation) felt harder to me than 5.7 ,and the "trail" over to it from the left side routes (Three Little Roofs, for instance) is pretty exposed. Nice little route, though, and a great view from the rap rings on top. Sep 22, 2019
