Current San Diego County Advisories Details

Description

Tears of Envy is a brilliant line that ascends the black, green and orange headwall of ECM. This full value pitch offers bullet hard stone, spectacular position, and fluid, sustained climbing through an improbable series of holds. Requiring a perfect balance of finesse and fitness,"Tears" may well be one of the best 5.11 sport climbs in Southern California.

Location

This is the right most line starting from the Commander ledge. The first bolt is just above a small roof about 5ft up and right of the anchor.

Protection

16 draws or so. Bolted anchor with chains and rings. You can comfortably lower back to the ledge with a 70m rope.

Photos

Great route and very well protected. I left some new steel biners at the top since the original ones are rusted(courtesy of John Ericson). Feb 27, 2017

This is an amazing pitch and one of the better ones I have done at a similar grade anywhere. I highly recommend it. Jan 19, 2017

I'll replace them with proper rap rings next time I'm up there if someone hasn't already done so. Jul 18, 2016

Fantastic route. The carabiners on the anchors are SUPER rusty though… I was a little sketched out lowering off them. Jan 18, 2016
