Description Suggest change

This is the right bit of ice low down on Thatchtop just above Mills' Lake. There are a few variations that can give you vertical bits of ice or some lower angle wandering if you want.

You can belay off an okay-sized (4-5") tree up and left. It's probably 100'+ to the tree. The ice ends after may 60', and you could belay on sloping ice there, if you'd like.

You can probably get to Mills' Lake without floatation in a busy winter. The last ~150-200' vertical will have a bit of snow wallowing.

Descend off to the right down a somewhat steep gully.

From a conversation with Doug Snively, he & Duncan Ferguson climbed this back in the 1970s. They did not name it then. They were doing some testing of precursors to the ice spectre and found this bit of ice to play on.

Location Suggest change

This is the right bit of ice just above Mills' Lake on Thatchtop way, way below All Mixed Up.

Protection Suggest change

A few ice screws and a directional sling for a stump above the ice before going left to the tree anchor.
